CMS- Content Management Systems
CMS and The Design Teams
Content Management Systems are a fast growing trend among designers around the globe. Content for pages is no longer limited to what the designer decides to place there. With the growing trends of Intranet/Extranets in larger companies, it is no longer feasible to have one person doing all the web updating. Utilizing a CMS enables the IT and NT departments to allow access to certain, restricted areas of website's and gives departments control over what is uploaded to their areas of website's.
There are many
free open source CMS programs available. Mambo and e107 are two of them.
Mambo is a powerful open source CMS that includes many demos and tutorials. There are a healthy supply of free templates to download and according to the instructions, creation of your own is as easy as pie. Site accounts start with the Super Administrator who has complete control over every aspect of the site, Administrators that can add and delete pages and content among other things and Users who are granted limited access to change content only.
e107 is another powerful open source CMS that includes coders, styles and themes. e107 is also very user friendly in FireFox which has its own share of problems when it comes to CMS, Dynamic website's and other things to numerous to go into. They also have a "Bug Tracker" which is very helpful should you encounter problems with your CMS and need to find the "fix" for it.

Have You Used A CMS?
Actually I have 2 CMS's set up on my website. I haven't taken the time to play with them much but do plan to during the "off season". My site, Outside The Pitbox.com has Mambo and e107 installed. Note-my host had to install them on the server end so I cannot tell you how that was done. If you have questions pertaining to that, I am certain the host would be happy to answer any questions you may have.
